Here’s Some Great Tips on Stereo Repairs

While I was doing stereo repairs, I was handed this JVC model CA-DXT9, (which is a DVD/ dual cassette stereo receiver). The symptom was that it was DEAD.

I plugged it in, and noticed that the front panel fluorescent display would come on for only about a half second or so… After checking the power supply section, I discovered that the main power transformer’s primary side was wide open (no continuity displayed on my Ohm meter).

So if you have a unit like this, first MAKE SURE to DISCONNECT the power cord first! Remember to do this while doing ANY troubleshooting.

Then with your meter set to measure resistance (Ohms or continuity), measure across the two points where the finger is pointing to.

If the reading is infinity (nothing on the meter display and/or no beep) then the power transformer is defective and needs to be replaced.

An EXCELLENT SOURCE that I've found for JVC replacement parts can be found at !
