A Cool DLP TV Repair Tip for a Samsung HL-P5067W

HL_P5067W_Chassis

Here's an interesting DLP TV repair tip for a Samsung HL-P5067W, 50 inch TV set.

While doing DLP TV repair, a Samsung HL-P5067W had come in for shutting down after a few minutes of play, the lamp would stay on and the standby, and temperature lights on the front panel would blink.
I tested the set, and sure enough the set would SHUT DOWN.

I then disassembled the set to get access to the chassis.

Click Here To get a FREE DOWNLOAD of the "Disassembly/Reassembly" part of the service manual for the HL-R5667WX which is almost identical (you will need adobe acrobat reader to view).

Here's Some Additional Tips! YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS - DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS OR ANYTHING ELSE INSIDE THE CHASSIS WHEN OPERATING IT IN THIS MANNER.

After you remove the rear cover, you also have to bypass the lamp cover safety interlock switch by either looping the switch's wires around the "little blue stick" part of it (to keep it pushed up or down instead of it's center position), or by using a piece of tape to hold it in place.

Now reconnect the power cord. Then either use the remote, or have someone hit the power switch and look to see if all the cooling fans in the chassis start turning, and the lamp tries to come on.

If a fan, or the lamp, or the lamp ballast is defective, the TV will go into a protect mode and shut down. But, since I've seen this problem before (especially the blinking lights error code on the front panel), I knew that the temperature sensor was at fault. By the way, the Service Manual has all error codes and troubleshooting procedures listed in it.

You can positively confirm this problem by inserting a small paperclip shaped into a "U", into the temp sensor's plug were the wires go into it effectively "bypassing" the sensor (also leave the plug connected to the sensor to keep it held away from anything else), and run the TV until past the point in time were it would usually shut down.

Does the TV keep running normally? If YES then it's time to replace your sensor. Thus another chapter in DLP TV repair is written for the Samsung HL-P5067W.
